Recently Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan refused to endorose a fairness cream. In a country which is unjustly obsessed with fair skin, Aishwarya recently took a firm stand. She refused to be the Indian face of a skin-lightening cream by a global cosmetic company.

After Aishwarya turned down the offer, the cosmetic company signed Sonam Kapoor to endorse the fairness cream. The cosmetic company is positioning Sonam as a ‘young face’, as opposed to Aishwarya who may now be called the ‘older face’ of the cosmetic industry.

However, a source reveals that the key factor behind Sonam being the new face has got nothing to do with her age.

Revealing the real reason for Aishwarya’s refusal and Sonam’s subsequent approval, our source said, “It was the fairness cream that bothered Aishwarya. She said that she didn’t want to promote a fairness cream especially in India where one’s skin colour is such a big issue. She will never promote a product that discriminates on the basis of one’s skin colour. Ours is a society where biases are so prevalent that she will do all she can to curb it.”

“When Aishwarya refused to relent, the cosmetic company was forced to get Sonam into the picture. They need an Indian face for the promotion and Sonam was the next ideal choice,” said our source.

When contacted, A i s hw a r y a refused to comment as she is contract-bound. Commenting on how Aishwarya has reacted to this, the source said, “Such stories seldom bother her. Aishwarya is primarily guided by her sense of ethics as far as advertising is concerned. She does not endorse products unless she believes in them. She was recently offered a fortune to replace Rani Mukherjee to endorse a popular mosquito repellent cream, but she turned down the offer.”

Shilpa Shetty invites Akshay Kumar

Shilpa Shetty invited Akshay Kumar on stage to announce the winner of the Bigg Boss Season 2.
Shilpa Shetty then teased Akshay Kumar a bit. “Maine dekha hai, aapne zindagi mein kaafi bade stunts kiye hain,” she said to which Akshay replied, “Aap se behtar aur kaun jaan sakta hai mere stunts ke baare mein, Shilpaji.” Needless to say, the Shetty girl went red in the face. Anyways after winding up the show, when Akshay was leaving the venue, there was a minor skirmish outside the gate when the locals spotted his car. They gave it a chase to have a dekho of their favourite star.

he Khiladi was trapped inside and it was only after the security guards came to his rescue that he managed to get away. But AK kept his cool throughout the fiasco.

Aishwarya to appear in Ravan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is getting ready for Mani Ratnam's next film, Raavan. The film is a sensuous contemporary Hindi take on the Ramayana, in which Aishwarya will be playing a classical singer for the first time in her career.

Aishwarya wants to excel in every role she plays. A source says, "Aishwarya will be learning classical singing for this role. Ideally, she'd like to sing all her songs in Raavan, herself. She's a very good singer in real life. But not good enough to sing classical songs on screen with aplomb. So, like Shabana Azmi in Morning Raga Aishwarya intends to take lessons in how to look convincing as a singer. She'll be regularly taking lessons in classical singing from a guru."Aishwarya will also do riyaaz before she starts shooting for Raavan in October.

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan at Cannes

Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan at the 61st Cannes International Film Festival in France on May 15, 2008.

Ash is looking stunning, just like one of the Hollywood actresses who are a pro at the red carpet. She surely has evolved and Ash’s sense of dressing just keeps getting better every year. Aishwarya Rai is looking at par with Eva Longoria and French actress Rachida Brakni, who walked with her on the red carpet. Her hair is right, her purse is right and I like the fact that she has not used to jewellery to mess up the look.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan exited over Pink Panther 2

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who recently completed Sarkar Raj for Bollywood with her legendary father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, is now looking forward to her Hollywood release Pink Panther 2 with that great actor Steve Martin.

The beautiful actress cannot stop raving about the veteran American actor. “He’s fantastic. An institution. He has unbelievable comic timing and such energy. It’s incredible how hard he works at his age on the physical comedy. Just like Pa! Pink Panther 2 is completely Steve Martin’s film,” said Aishwarya Rai, adding, “what makes my role special is that they haven’t specified my nationality. Nor have I been made to put on any accent. In fact, every other character is culture-specific. Except mine. That was really nice. We all have done our best. And when we started shooting in Paris, Abhishek Bachchan was with me, so it was very nice.”

However, Ash refuses to admit that Pink Panther 2 being an international project was extra special to her. “I’m not one to compare assignments. For me Chokher Bali in Kolkata was as precious as Pink Panther 2 in Boston. But, yes, Gurinder Chadha’s Bride & Prejudice and her husband’s Mistress Of Spices had a lot of Indians in the crew, so I felt at home.” And to set the record straight, Ash said, “ The Last Legion with Sir Ben Kingsley was my first fully-fledged international project. It was such a fantastic experience.”
